Getting here by train
The nearest railway station to Graianfryn is Bangor, 7 miles away.
Most trains serving Bangor originate at Cardiff, Birmingham or London Euston.
If you’re coming on the ferry from Ireland you can take the train from Holyhead to Bangor, this takes about half an hour. For train details, check National Rail or Transport for Wales
Taxis wait on the station forecourt for incoming trains, alternatively you could catch the S2 Sherpa bus – download the timetable
You can board at the bus stand just outside the station near the telephone kiosks. The S2 times are displayed there, don’t wait by the bus stops in front of the ticket office. Ask the driver for Beran garage, it’s a Texaco filling station in open countryside on your left, journey time is about 30 minutes. Opposite Beran, a short distance to the right, is a farm gate with a pedestrian gate beside it. This is the footpath marked on the map below, which takes you past a couple of cottages and a farm before you reach Graianfryn, about a ten minute walk. The path is muddy in places after wet weather, an alternative is to walk along the verge to the brow of the hill, then down the hill on the shared use path to the Penisarwaun turning.
Train/Cycle
Even better, bring your bike on the train and explore Snowdonia and Anglesey on two wheels. Most trains can carry only two bikes so cycle reservation tickets are recommended. We use this combination whenever we can for longer distance UK travel so ask us if you need some tips.We have tools at Graianfryn and there are good independent bike shops in Llanberis and Bangor.
